University Life as a Bad Ass

Wow, September really breezed past. A rush of school work, work work, and procrastination work are filling up my schedule. In haste, I brought my camera to the university to capture a couple of photos. I look more like a bad ass than a broke undergrad.

I Feel It

It's been a while. Things have been hectic here. A lot of snow (in September, no less!), a lot of sunshine, a lot of this and that. I've even gone to two different celebrations in the last two weeks. I saw a flaming octopus named, El Pulpo Mecanico and was finger-fed banana bread at an all day-breakfast. What times we live in!

But sometimes it's good to slow it down, come back to our own meandering and mellow ways.

Fifty Two Daring Dates

Do you ever find yourself stagnating with ideas for date nights? I'm starting a new segment called Fifty Two Daring Dates. Every Monday, I'm going to bring you one new idea for a date, test-driven by yours truly and my significant other, Zac. In this segment, I'll explain the kinds of things we did, how much we paid, and how fun it was. I hope that somehow this may give couples out there in the world new ideas for dates!

Date Night #1: Archery

Zac and I headed to the local archery club for some good old target practice. I've never gone before today and wowee, what an experience! The sport itself, because of its lack of intensity, allows me to compete with Zac on a more level playing field. We can be competitive against one another without significantly overshadowing the other. Archery may look easy but takes a lot of skill; aim is not simply how to hold the bow and arrow but perspective, strength, and judgement.

For a little more than a movie ticket at the theatre, we received one bow of our choice (a lefty for me!), three arrows, and a wrist guard. After that, we had unlimited time at the range to shoot as much as we wanted. We were there for almost an hour and a half, plugging arrows into the burlap surrounding the targets!

Two out of three of my arrows. I don't think I could do that again though!
Archery was definitely way too much fun. My fingers are a little sensitive from holding the string, but I would love to do it again. I even tried it with my right hand and a larger bow!

Cost: around $15 CAN
Fun: 5/5, would do again

The Sacred Book of the Werewolf Review

What is the path to enlightenment? Atonement? Prayer? Humility? What about spiritual solitude and mental fortitude? Let A Hu-Li, a redheaded two thousand year old werefox prostitute, guide you through these spiritual and moral dilemmas within The Sacred Book of the Werewolf, or as Amazon describes it, "the world's first zen buddhist paranormal romance". Written by the forefront runner in Russian postmodernist absurdism,Victor Pelevin skillfully peels back the grimy layers of Moscow's elite to reveal societal scars deep to the bone.

Who Let the Dogs Out?

There are some days where regular glam is not enough. Your hair isn't big enough, heels not high enough, lips not lipstick enough. On those days, turning to fashion icons for a fresh look can always make the day better.
Regardless of her tyrannical campaign for dalmatian fur, Cruella De Vil is the epitome of high fashion and she knows it. Her style is modern art, abstract and classic, recalling memories of Hollywood starlets primped and preened for adoring photographers. For Cruella, the whole world is her stage and she is the centre of attention. And man, does she ever know how to dress.

You can almost here her saying, "Dahhhhling".
I haven't seen 101 Dalmatians since my youth. However, today felt like a Cruella day, complete with lipstick and luxury. What makes a Cruella day? A day full of deep red lipstick, sharp shoes, and super self-confidence. The only thing I'm missing is the fur.

No, I'm not coming after your dogs! Calm down! All I'm after is some wonderful spotted prints to tide me through the summer.

Have you seen 101 Dalmatians? And who is your Disney style icon? Let me know in the comments below!
